I'm just as much an Ellen-fan as the next person, and most likely this would have had me in stitches coming off a stage or a TV-set.
Unfortunately, emotion just isn't immediately transferable from one medium to another (which explains a lot about novels adapted on film). My theory is, this material isn't cerebral enough to stand for the thousandth of a second of afterthought that is inherent to reading. Un-funny.
